Senior Wellness Initiative

Senior Wellness Initiative Logo

The Senior Wellness Initiative is our newest project at Interfaith Caregivers.   Serving both older adults and family caregivers, this project promotes healthy aging through a variety of means with an emphasis on making better choices when it comes to nutrition, exercise, stress reduction, falls prevention and self-management of conditions such as arthritis, diabetes, and chronic pain.

Our goal is to provide seniors and the caregivers with the information and resources they need to make the decisions that are best for them, so they can improve their ability to live in the setting of their choice, and to delay the onset or advancement of physical or neurological conditions that threaten longevity, independence, and optimal health.

What we offer:

Zucchini Adoption Program

We discovered in 2015 that a lot of produce grown here in Faribault County goes without a home so we at Interfaith have stepped in to find good homes for fruits & veggies grown right here!

If you’ve grown more produce than you know what to do with stop by our office to drop it off. We’ll take just about anything!

Where does the produce go? It goes to seniors in the area that use our services. It can be picked up in our office or the Interfaith staff and volunteers will help distribute it to those that request it. Everything that gets donated gets sent out within the week to those that are interested.

Lunch & Learns

Join us each month for our Lunch & Learns. We cover a wide variety of topics and of course provide a delicious lunch! Not only is this a great time to learn something new, but it’s also a chance to get out and about to meet others in the community.

Some of the topics we have & will potentially be covering include:

  • Using Avocados
  • Social Security Secrets
  • Energy Assistance
  • Stress Relief
  • Medicare Information
  • Signs of Stroke
  • Dealing with Arthritis
  • Boosting your Immune System
  • Caregiver Support & Workshops

Tai Chi

Tai Chi is a fun, easy, and effective way to help older adults improve their balance, reduce the likelihood of falling, and increase muscle strength, flexibility and mobility.

In June 2016 we started our first two Tai Chi classes in Blue Earth and Wells. The class is taught by Carol Soma, an Interfaith staff member & certified instructor and is held two days a week and runs for 12 weeks.

We had such a great turn out for both classes we are anticipating starting another round in 2017!
