The “Danger Show” tough us about elderberries, which do prove to be quite dangerous if eaten raw as they have cyanide inducing chemicals in them.. do NOT eat them raw! When cooked elderberries can drastically improve your health:
Health benefits of the elder plant include naturally improving colds, the flu, sinus issues, nerve pain, inflammation, chronic fatigue, allergies, constipation and even cancer. When used within the first 48 hours of onset of symptoms, the extract has actually been found to reduce the duration of the flu with symptoms being relieved on an average of four days earlier. During the 1995 Panama flu epidemic, the government actually employed the use of the elderberry to fight the flu.
These berries grow wild all over – keep your eyes open! You can make tea, juice, and jams with them.
2/3 c dried elderberries
3 1/2 c water
2T fresh ginger
1/2 t cloves
Boil, simmer 45 minutes. Mash berries, strain. Add honey when luke warm. Instant pot 9 minutes
1 c raw honey
Tim Stoner the GM from Blue Earth Light and Water had some great insights on saving energy. Even if you have a different provider his money saving tips might also be used for other companies. A big one is switching to more energy efficient appliances and/or LED light bulbs. Not only will this save in your monthly bill but the items that you purchased may qualify for a rebate – check with your provider! If you do use BE Light & Water they have a load management program to help save you money as well as the option to receive solar energy – check with them for more info!
